You're gone now
I can see it in your eyes
The steady rising in your chest
Has stopped after laboring
For hours and hours
Of a futile attempt
To hang onto the life
That you wished you would live to have
For a whole lot longer
And you're right
You're too young to die
You may not have had time
To leave your mark on everyone in the world
But you've made your mark on me
A mark that I will carry
And cherish for the rest of my life
As a way to hold onto you
I slowly raise my hand
And pull your eye lids close with them
I can't stand to look at the nothingness
In what used to be your beautiful eyes
I take your hand in mine
And squeeze gently
To savor the last warmth in you
To savor my last touch of you
